Sao Paulo is a vibrant city and full of things to do and places to visit.
During my trip to Brazil, I was invited to cover Brazilodge Hostel, in one of the best areas to stay in the city of Sao Paulo.
Located in Vila Mariana, one of the most traditional neighborhoods in the southern area of Sao Paulo, where you can find several restaurants and bars as well as designer shops and delicious coffee!
Vila Mariana area is quiet and very close to the beautiful Park Ibirapueira, one of the beautiful places to visit in Sao Paulo. Also relatively close to the city center, the famous Paulista Avenue and the neighborhood of Vila Madalena, famous for its nightlife and cultural activities.
You will find from your first steps into Brazilodge Hostel a warm and youthful atmosphere, almost all who work there have a great disposition to help with your plans in the city or what you need during your stay in the city .
Brazilodge Hostel has a modern and minimalist decor, always clean and bright light in common areas. The common kitchen you can use is also well equipped with almost everything you might need for cooking.
You can store your stuff in the fridge and if you need to buy something at night have a shop in the lobby with beverages and some snacks.
The Rooms
Brazilodge Hostel have shared and private rooms. All units have air conditioning and private bathroom. Something I found very handy is that they have separate shower toilet and sink , making it possible to optimize the time of use when several people share the same facilities .
During my stay I slept in two different rooms.
They have different types of private rooms with double and twin beds, designed for groups of friends or families.
The private room that I stayed in was very spacious and bright. With a double bed, TV ( small) private bathroom, a cozy desk and a closet with a unit that you can close with a lock to store your valuables.
One detail that I liked is that the private rooms include hair dryers and towels in the bathroom in addition.
The only detail I did not like about this room was the musty smell that was in it.
The dormitories have a design to optimize the space and to keep some privacy in each cell. With beds as separate units, each with head light, plug and a small shelf to leave your personal belongings. They also have side and under beds lockers with padlock to leave your stuff safely stored.
Shared rooms are for 4.5 6 and 8 people and separated by sex. You would like to have in mind that, if you like having a lot of silence to sleep you avoid the rooms on the ground floor as in this level you will find the common areas and circulates more people than on the upper floors.
The linen was always very clean and if you need they rent towels for an extra fee.
The shared areas
Something that is always appreciate is when a hostel includes breakfast in your rate, breakfast in Brazilodge Hostel is quite complete and includes bread, fruit, cakes and tasty coffee every day. Brazilodge Hostel has complementary WiFi in all areas, but the speed is not the same in all the building. If you wanna know, at the reception and in my room on the second floor it is where I had better speed, but not in the dining-living room. The shared room has some table games, a pool table and television with movies available you can watch. There is a small patio with tables and a sunbathing area with a shower to withstand the sun during the summer.
How to get there
If you do not bother walking, Brazilodge Hostel is about 15 minutes walk from the Metro station Ana Rosa.
You must walk or take a bus down the street and then turn left on Rua Rio Grande.
If you get a Bilhete Unico you can combine the fare between Metro and Onibus, which will lower the transport costs in Sao Paulo.
Taxis are not cheap in Sao Paulo, so it depends on your budget if this is your option to get around the city.
They have parking if you run it in your own car.

I totally agree Ms. Chica :-). They’re the perfect compromise… when one is no longer a 21-yr old party-animal. Happy travels to you too!
Very well-written review! I also stayed here recently and had a similar experience to you. Some front-desk staff were super-friendly and helpful, others a bit less so; overall it was very clean and comfortable and the rooms were more like those of a hotel than a traditional hostel. The breakfasts were very good, and the location was excellent. The issue with hotel-style hostels is that they tend to be less fun and friendly than “real” hostels, and that was the case here, but this kind of setup is perfect for people looking for a comfortable, quiet and efficient hostel experience.
Hi Andy,
Many thanks for your comment! Nowadays I think I prefer this kind of hostels more than the ‘real & party hostels’ as I appreciate when I can get some rest if I want to and you can still get the hostel mood that makes it easier to meet awesome fellow travelers! Happy travels to you!
