A Poshtel is a Boutique Hostel, with a perfect combination between affordable luxury and style.
HERE YOU HAVE SOME REASONS WHY TO STAY IN ONE OF THEM
In the last years Hostels have been one of the first lodging option for backpackers and budget travelers.
In one side, Hostels are known to be places where you can meet other travelers, to party and save money. On the other side Backpacker Hostels are also known for being crowded, dirty and out of any style.
Hostels started as Youth refuges for students traveling on a very low-budget in Europe who didn’t care at all about this details.
Today, there’s a group of travelers, the ones who choose hostels for the meeting-people part, but they do care about staying in a different kind of place. Normally targeted for travelers on their 30’s who are not looking for those party places where you can’t sleep or use a clean toilette.
Because of this new needs of certain group of travelers, some Hostels are evolving to be more conscious about comfort and style, but at the same time they keep being on a budget category. A night in a Poshtel is normally between 10 and 40USD, depending on the country; in Thailand you can stay in a fancy Poshtel for 10USD a night.
These trendy and chic Hostels have a name: Poshtels.
Tania, from theposhpacker.com explains:
Poshtels are a new trend in hospitality. A poshtel is a hostel with an upgraded image and greater amenities, most likely associated with a 3 or 4 star hotel. Also called upscale hostel, boutique hostel, high-end hostel, luxury hostel, and haute hostel. Poshtels have the social feel of a hostel with a few hotel perks like free wifi, free breakfast, swimming pool, private rooms, designed decor, restaurant, bar, lounge, DJ’s, and among.
This new trend is quickly becoming the alternative for those who’ve outgrown traditional hostels, yet do not want to stay in generic corporate hotels.
This unique characteristic of being Cheap but Chic are making Poshtels to get known around the world and they are expecting to be the biggest travel trend for this year 2015.
Offering commodities as Free Wifi, clean towels and bed linen and comfortable beds, swimming pools, saunas, chef or small cinemas; but all keeping it at lower cost than what it would cost in a Boutique Hotel and like this reinventing the more traditional idea of a Hostel to compete with Hotels.
Some Poshtels only have private rooms but others keep the idea of dorms but they do it in a very unique way, with almost private cabins in a shared room.
Poshtels are offering authentic experiences and giving a great value for the money you are investing on them. They tend to have all the facilities that are expected in a luxury hotel but in a smaller scale, so you still have the chance to meet the staff and other fellow travelers and get a warm and friendly vibe around.
I haven’t done a poshtel yet, but I love the idea. Hopefully soon!
We’ve been using some nice boutique hostels and loved them. As you said it’s great to stay in a nice place that doesn’t drain your bank account.
I’ve never stayed in a hostel, because I was worried about the cleanliness. In 2 weeks I will be staying at my first one, but I think it is considered a poshtel. The pics make it look like a really nice place. Guess I’ll find out!
I hope it will be a wonderful experience @Vicky and Buddy!
Poshtel, hahaha, what a name 😉 I would give it a try!
It really sounds like something for me, especially because I’m a little tired of this party-all-night hostels for younger travelers 😉
I know your feeling @travelinginlove! Many thank’s for checking my blog!
Poshtel, hahah! Never heard of that, so great!
I haven’t but I totally would! Sounds like a great option for me
Love this idea! Can you give examples of poshtels? Are there any in Tunisia, Kosovo, or Macedonia? Will be there in October/November this year!
Hey Carol, unfortunately I’ve never been in those countries before, as soon as I can have a reference I’ll let you know. If not maybe you can tell me about it after your trip!
I normally only book 5 and 6 star hotels. Last summer, however, friends made me stay in one of these poshtels (was in zadar, in croatia). I wouldn’t do it again..really. But it was not half as bad as i imagined it to be!
A Poshtel! I have to say I’ve never heard of that before. I have to say it looks like something I would now consider. Thanks for sharing it.
Many thank’s for reading me @suereddel!
I am pretty sure I have ended up in a few of these without even trying.
Same happened to me @jennifermelroy, was living in one in Bangkok last year without knowing the term. Reall nice place 😉
I’ve not heard the term poshtel but sounds like a definite opportunity in the market
Thank for reading me @Toni! It was also a new term for me until few weeks ago and found it really interesting to check about it!
I had not heard about these – great idea and thanks for the great info
I haven’t tried, but I’ve been invited so I am sure I will soon.
xx
I hope you’ll have a great experience Fiona!
Gotta love “Chic and Cheap”. I haven’t done a poshtel just yet but I definitely fit into this category now – I must be able to sleep, have a clean room/bathroom and a private room. 😉
