For most newly married couples, one of the most important rituals related to a wedding is the honeymoon. I’m sure if you thought at least once on about getting married you had an idea of your dreamed honeymoon.
When we decided that we will celebrate our honeymoon traveling we had a not very easy time to decide where to go. The options were so many, and even if it was not our first trip together, it was not so easy to plan as we wanted to make the best memories of this special trip.
But how to choose the perfect place for the perfect Honeymoon?
The first decision was what kind of destination we wanted to go, and that was very clear for both of us: a place with sun, palm trees, lots of nature, some luxury and a place we probably won’t go in another occasion. Ah! And the other very important condition was it must be a new country for both of us.
We are both avid travelers and we wanted to go somewhere new for both of us and it was not super easy. He’s German and despite not being a professional traveler, you know how much Germans travel! So, my husband has been in more countries than me until now. I’m also being traveling around since I’m 18 and covered a lot in South America, Asia, and Europe.
After a few days thinking about this, we got three possible places.
Option one: Bali
The first option was Bali, as we both wanted to go there since ever and it would be having all of what we wanted. We had beautiful hotels as an option like the Kanyon Jungle resort or the Ubud Valley Boutique Resort, or the COMO Uma Canggu.
Option two: Seychelles
The second option was Seychelles, one of our dream destinations because of several reasons, but mainly the nature and the beauty of the landscape. We had as an option several beautiful hotels, but the Banyan Tree and the Raffles were my two favorites when doing my research.
Option three and the winner
After all the research, the chosen place was…yeah!!! The Maldives!!!!
But what was coming next was the hardest: to choose in between so many options and so many amazing resorts, one better than the next one and most of them having a high level of luxury and quality.
We both love traveling and experiencing the local culture so we usually don’t go to resorts, but for this special occasion we thought it would be the best to give as a total break only for us and then, going to a resort and having not much immersion to the local culture to be ok as a special location to just be together.
Our favorite hotel for a Honeymoon in The Maldives
After a long search and along with it taking on the pros and cons of several Hotels, we loved several of them.
My dream was staying in an underwater room at the Conrad Maldives is having or having the option to have a romantic underwater dinner surrounded by all the beautiful and colorful fishes.
I also loved the beautiful and super Instagrammable places at the Soneva Fushi with a beautiful swing over the water in the Taj Exotica.
But after quite some time, we found out the resort having most of what we wanted was the Dusit Thani.
And just as a side note: THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED POST. I loved the hotel so much that I want to help you to make your decision and see if this would be the best fit for you.
The Dusit Thani Hotel Maldives
We are lovers of the Thai culture and food and as Dusit Thani is owned by Thais, we thought it would be interesting to enjoy their high-quality level of service and luxury in the Maldives and it would be the perfect combination between the Maldivian culture with the option of having delicious Thai food.
As soon as we reached the resort, we had a welcoming committee waiting for us with refreshing towels and passion fruit juice. The manager itself was there to explain to us how our next days will be and to introduce us to our butler, Abdul who then gave us a little tour around the Island before reaching our Villa.
Our perfect Water Villa
As soon as we enter the villa, we knew it was perfect! It was simply but beautifully decorated and it had everything you need for a stay in paradise. The water villa had a big wooden terrace facing the ocean including three different chairs and tables and the best…your own pool! On top of that, we had our own stair to go directly into the ocean and do all the snorkeling we wanted. It was even possible to watch the most beautiful and colorful fishes and a funny octopus directly from the terrace.
The Villa included a minibar and complimentary coffee machine and tea, plus daily refilled water bottles that are produced in the island itself. We had a small welcoming chocolate cake, chocolates, a bottle of champagne and a basket of very delicious fruits.
The Villa has a main area with the bed and a couch facing the ocean, and the huge toilet area separated by sliding doors, including a bathtub, a shower and the only thing I didn’t like too much was that everything is connected to the bathroom is not very private.
The other detail I didn’t like too much was the amount of storage space, so I have to keep most of my clothes inside my suitcase as I could hang out some dresses only but for other stuff there is not much space to put your close, this was a bit disappointed for a luxury hotel like this.
One of the very cool things is you can call anytime your Butler to ask questions, make reservations at the restaurants, or anything else you need…like getting a tricycle when you don’t knot how to ride a normal bike (yup, I’m one of those persons, but I’m trying to learn now…stay tuned!).
We had every time the bed was made a cute towel animal receiving us on the bed, from swans and even the coolest crocodile wearing my sunglasses, very cute and funny.
The food at Dusit Thani Resort
The resort is having three Restaurants. The main restaurant is called The Market where there is always a buffet open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every evening they do a special theme for food, for example, international, Maldivian or Arabian.
There are only two restaurants open for lunch and dinner, the Sea Grill and the Benjarong, the Thai restaurant of the island and winner World Luxury Restaurant Awards 2018 for the Thai food category. For dinner we had usually to make reservations as they tend to be busier, but it was really good in all the restaurants especially in the time and the breakfast, was the variety and service with a good quality every day you can get fresh fruits fresh bake cakes croissants, passion fruit, fresh noodles soup and more.
Attached to the sea Grill-Restaurant and at the infinite poolside is the bar to get all the time drinks, coffee and snacks.
Most of the drinks and meals were included in our all-inclusive package, including some of the awesome specialty drinks, the only very weird thing I found was coconuts were not included and you have to pay $3 for a fresh coconut (in an island full of them!). Off course I asked (complained) to the manager and he said it was because it’s too hard to pick them…right.
We also have included in our Honeymoon package a cooking class! We have learned to prepare several Thai dishes at the Benjarong, this award restaurant chef gave us valuable tips to cook green curry, beef salad, and the perfect Tom Yum soup.
The environment and ecosystem in the Baha Atoll
The resort is located in a 16-hectare island, the Mudhdhoo island in the Baa Atoll, which is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve since June 2011. The Baa Atoll is formed by 105 coral reefs covering about 139,700 hectares of coastal and marine areas.
The biggest island is Dharavandhoo (45,5 ha), followed by Kunfunadhoo (35 ha).
Most of the resorts in the Maldives are built in their own private island and this makes them very special, for example in Dharavandhoo, the biggest island in the Baa Atoll, houses 12 guesthouses and spread across the other islands of the atoll there are 15 resorts, ranging from the super-luxurious to medium range, and about 30 registered guesthouses on the other inhabited islands of the atoll.
The unique and most valuable thing in the Baa Atoll is that you have a whole ecosystem surrounding you and we loved the idea to be in one of the only UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in the Maldives.
The fauna of the Baa Atoll includes approximately 250 species of corals, both stony and soft corals, more than 1000 fish species, a population of marine turtles including some threatened and endangered species such as the green turtle (Chelonia mydas), hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), and seabirds. The Hanifaru Bay, known locally as Vandhumaafaru Adi has one of the biggest whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) congregations and some of the largest gatherings of manta rays (Manta birostris), worldwide.
Be responsible and don’t touch the corals!
Corals are not rocks and I just learned details about them while on the island. They are ecosystems hosting thousands of little animals called polyps who live together in these amazing and most of the time super colorful formations called Corals.
They are not only delicate as a structure but also, they take more than years to grow or recover when they are dying may grow between 20 and 30 centimeters per year, while massive boulder-shaped coral may grow only a few millimeters per year, taking up to 12 years to recover a bleached reef.
There are several conditions affecting them -like higher temperatures- that can cause Corals to expel the algae covering them and the ones who provide 80% of the nutrients they need to live, when this happens, they turn white.
The Dusit Thani is making the effort and trying to educate the guests having printed brochures explaining about the importance of respecting the reef and they have signs about this in some places, but even then, I saw myself bossing some snorkelers after seeing them stepping on the corals. Please, don’t do that!
When to go to the Maldives
One of the best things about The Maldives is that they have a warm and humid tropical climate weather, the meaning is sunny and warm all year round, having average temperatures between 23ºC and 32ºC.
The best time to visit the Maldives is between November and April, being the high season between December and March, during the dry monsoon period.
The rainy monsoon period runs from May to November, peaking around June when the days are the hottest and is when it’s raining the most.
How to get to the Maldives
One of the most important things to keep in mind when traveling to The Maldives is that despite being considered the smallest Asian country by land and population, it’s spread in about 298 square kilometers (115 sq mi) being one of the world’s most geographically dispersed sovereign states. This takes importance when booking your hotel and flights because it can be you need to take a local flight and a boat to get to your hotel!
We found a great connection starting from Frankfurt, Germany directly to Male with Lufthansa. The night flight was the best option as we could arrive early on the island and profit the whole first day.
We were welcomed by a hotel representative and escorted to an airport lounge, where we could wait for the next flight with drinks and some snacks, he even did the checking-in for us!! To get to Dusit Thani we needed a second flight to Dharavandhoo Airport followed by a quick speed boat ride to the Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll where the hotel is located.

The overall experience at the Dusit Thani Maldives
This was for us a perfect Honeymoon!
The place is a dream made true, our Villa over the water was more than perfect and we had so much fun during those 10 days on the island!
You can check HERE the prices and availability of Dusit Thani Maldives for your favorite time of the year.
The quality of the service was impressive, and they will make you feel there are no worries or problems to think about.
The location of the Dusit Thani is perfect and it’s possible to find very good connections from Europe as it’s not needing much travel inside the country to reach the resort.
I was so attached and comfortable in this place that I was in tears when we were leaving the place while the staff was waving us early in the morning to reach our flight. Everything was perfect and I hope you can enjoy this place as much as we did if you ever go!
Thanks for sharing amazing pictures.
We took a speed boat from Male and enjoyed the wonderful Maldives.
WOW love these photos Gloria. Looks so clear in your floating shot. I see this as being a great choice, even with Bali and the Seychelles being magical.
