AIR in Chilean Food:
Wine and Spirits
Chile exhibits a world-class wine industry and you should consider a visit to the vineyards as part of your Chilean adventure.
Wine lovers will find the perfect place to taste unique strains as Carmenère ( a strain that was lost in France and reappear in Chile) with beautiful landscape.
There’s more than only wine in Chile and along with wine production, there’s another product made with grapes that will probably love.
A clear grapes brandy called Pisco is one of the most popular alcoholic beverages and usually served as a cocktail with lemon called: Pisco sour.
Terremoto
There are many stories and legends about how this brewage was created. Some say it was created in the mythical Bar La Piojera after the strong earthquake of 1985, which hit almost the entire country.
The presentation usually is in a glass of almost a half liter that includes Pipeño wine, pineapple ice cream and Fernet or grenadine for the sweet ones.
To drink it remember to mix it well before you start drinking it and be careful since the fresh and sweet of this drink will make you lose the notion that each glass is almost half a liter of wine!
Pisco
You have probably heard about the endless dispute between Chile and Peru about this beverage.
I have nothing to discuss on this topic: average Peruvian Pisco is the best! But lately, Chile is also offering great quality and getting to be a good Pisco producer as well.
Following this little context, I can tell you what Chileans do with it. basically two main drinks you will find at every dinner, party, bar or restaurant: Piscola – pisco + Coke- and Pisco Sour – pisco mixed with lemon and sugar.-
Melvin
I only learned this drink had a name two years ago while sharing with some gringos.
We like to stuff fruits and doughs, and during the melon season, they are also targeted for being filled with white wine and sugar.
Borgoña
When you are bored of drinking pure delicious wine, you mixed it with fruits.
It can be strawberries, chirimoya, peaches and red or white wine work here. don’t forget the sugar and to drink it cold!
Cola de Mono
Christmas season in Chile is during our summer, so food and drinks are usually something fresh and cold.
It’s a milk based drink similar to the white Russian. Cola de Mono is the rockstar for the season and served cold in most of the houses for the Christmas night dinner.
Here you can find more about this delicious recipe!
