When we talk about the Chilean port, it is inevitable to think about nightlife, bars, and restaurants in Valparaiso. In Chile, we always listen and it seems that everyone tells us about those restaurants and bars in Valparaíso that we must know and sometimes when we are already there, it’s not so easy to find them.
After years of visiting this city, I share here my favorite restaurants and bars, which are the ones I always repeat and visit again. However, I know they are not the only ones and I’m really a food lover and it is one of the things I enjoy most when I travel.
There are always many places to discover and if you want to go with a local guide in Valparaíso, I can recommend you this tour exploring the hills of Valparaiso before taking part in a typical “Peña” where you will learn the local dances and songs. You can BOOK HERE this to enjoy a truly unique and traditional Chilean experience
I love to know and try new places so, I would love to know which restaurants and bars in Valparaíso you like the most!
Cinzano
One of the favorite bars of all and the traditional ones of the port, located in the Plaza Aníbal Pinto.
The Cinzano since 1896 receives parishioners and diners of almost different generations who share in their nights full of nostalgia and Creole food.
There is live music on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays where singers dance and dance underwear, boleros and tangos.
Through its bar and aisles, many people have passed and the best stories of the porteño night have happened. Its delicious pisco sour or their wine with strawberries called “Borgoña” is not to be missed!
El Horno de Chile
Literally meaning “The oven of Chile” this is one of the new restaurants in Cerro Alegre with a very interesting proposal of traditional Chilean food and very local flavors with a modern and author’s touch.
A simple decoration, rescuing the architecture of the sector and very spacious and comfortable tables. Absolutely recommended the octopus and the ceviche chilote.
Mercadito Alegre
For those of you who love sweets, do not try a lucuma cake in this pastry shop, it’s like missing your whole life!
With a very simple but beautiful decoration, without excessive prices and very good attention, in this “Happy Market” as the name says, you will find the best sweets and an excellent coffee to continue your happy walk in the hills.
Maybe the only thing missing is some tables to sit and enjoy, but you can still have your coffee standing in a cup of crockery and not in a carton cup, but the Mercadito is not a cafeteria, but a market, as his first name.
Café Paxín
The always welcomed espresso just when you get to the Rodoviario (Bus Terminal) in Valparaíso.
A place of passage, but it has the essentials, like a good coffee, empanadas, sandwiches and a super good attention. The three B’s in one place.

El Internado
In the best corner of Cerro Alegre is this huge restaurant called El Internado, literally meaning ‘Internship’, a place to eat and share with a modern decoration and a beautiful view of the port.
In the busy Paseo Dimalow, right in front of the Fauna restaurant, which I don’t put on the list because although the place has THE BEST VIEW of Cerro Alegre, the service is not always good and the food is at the same level of their service (I hope they improve soon, then I will highly recommend them).
If you just want to have a beer with a nice view you go to Fauna, but if you want to eat something simple and drink quietly, the boarding school is the place. Fauna is also a Boutique Hotel in the lower floors and one of the most beautiful in Cerro Alegre. You can BOOK HERE and check their prices and availability
Altamira
If you are a beer lover you can’t miss a visit to Altamira Brewery.
Located just at the foot of the Cerro Alegre and at the entrance of the Victoria Lift, in a very old house with a simple and modern decoration.
You can see the tanks where excellent craft beer is made right there, they also have a good food menu, good music and show their own videos on the bar TVs!
If you love wine and beer, I can recommend you this 6-hour tour that will take you from a typical vineyard in the Casablanca Valley to a small brewery in Valparaiso. BOOK HERE to learn more about the local viniculture and delicious microbrewed beers.
Mastodonte
When I first entered the Mastodon I could not believe what I saw! I was in the jungle.
With a characteristic and unique decoration, which is the dream of any child and also great, in the Mastodon you can have a beer with one of the best chorrillanas of the port amid zebras, giraffes, and elephants.
A characteristic place, with good attention and definitely a must see in the city.
El Pimentón
It was selected as the Best Picá Porteña in 2014.
Located in the ascent Ecuador and favorite place of all my regular friends to the port (Greetings Alex, Mary, and Seba) is the best place to taste a homemade food, abundant and wonderfully delicious.
Beans with reins, lentils, seafood risotto, charquicán with fried eggs, Tomaticán, and what they say is the best Chorrillana de Vaparaíso.
Rincón de las Guitarras
If it’s about experiencing the authentic Valpo nightlife, bohemian and very Chilean, in the House of Guitars is like being ’18’ all year.
With a simple decoration and without great pretensions, a lot of Chilean flags and pictures of the icons of the local music. It’s a unique place and well off the beaten path.
Here you can sing and dance boleros and the real “Cueca Chora” porteña. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday they usually have live music at night.
The food menu is simple but perfect to accompany an earthquake or burgundy next to some fish nuggets or “calugas de Pescado” or a Chorrillana.
Aaahhh and a joker …
Just up the street Urriola 358, you will find what are for my taste, the Best fried empanadas of Valpo. With more than 80 varieties and made just when you order them, Empanadas Delicias, are really delicious.
My favorite? The last time I followed the suggestion of the saleswoman and asked for once with cheese, octopus, and ciboulette which was amazing!
